Masala refers to a blend of spices that are used in South Asian cuisine. The combination of these spices depend on the region of origin or personal preference.

Garam means hot.
So, garam masala refers to hot spices. Your typical masala chai combination consists of spices that are warming spices and promotes circulation throughout your body. Hence, it's associated with warm, fuzzy, cosy, calm, relaxing, comfort becoming a fast favourite.

My favourite blend is: cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, cloves, fennel and black peppercorns.
